Do any male + female couples still visit McFaddin Beach, in 2024, to get nude? Back in the day, I generally preferred to set up near the couples, whether I was solo, and wanted to be sociable, or had “Girlfriend D” with me. “D” really liked being naked, generally shedding her bottom garment(s) while still en route to the beach, and losing her top as soon as we were driving on sand.
An earlier girlfriend, “H,” preferred that we set up somewhat more distant from anyone else, and interact only with each other. “H” was more of the topless type, so, kept the strings of her bikini bottoms tied, but, she was no less wild than “D.”
There is no way that my current “significant other” would be nude, in public, or want to be anyone near a “nude beach.” So, I am solo, unless I can find a suitable partner. I am starting to pay more attention to subtle flirting that happens at such places as Whole Foods.

Falling/low tide times favor afternoon visits, for the next several days. Low Tide is 5:48 PM today, the 14th of August, 6:39 PM tomorrow, the 15th, 7:28 PM on Friday, the 16th, 8:17 PM on Saturday the 17th, and 9:05 PM on Sunday, the 18th. Keep in mind that the widest amount of beach is exposed, at low tide. Moist sand is safer for driving, to avoid getting stuck. As the tide rises, one may be compelled to drive on the drier sand, above the tide line, and therefore be more vulnerable to getting stuck. Personally, I opt to be heading off the tricky parts of beach by the time the tide has turned.
As for enjoying the beach, it is more pleasant to walk in the intertidal zone, at low tide. The sand is firmer, and cleaner, for better walking. I can walk for miles on this firmer sand. Waves will have pushed most of the accumulated beach junk and natural detritus above the high tide mark. The best shells are usually found in the intertidal zone.
I may well drive out to McFaddin today, and/or any of the next few days, depending upon where the weather app shows nicer weather. Today, I will be more likely to try the High Island end, simply for the drive-time factor, after I have completed an errand in the Baytown area. I may opt to check out Sargent, if it looks like it will have better weather, or if the traffic app shows too much drama to get out east of the metro area.
Notably, “favorable weather” is not just about rain. A slack wind can mean that biting insects will make things miserable.

I made it to High Island this afternoon. The beach was in quite nice condition, especially considering the recent storm wave activity that had occurred. I drove to the vehicle barrier, passing several families along the way, then two lone fisherman, and finally reached the construction barrier, where two men and a woman were fishing. I believe that one of the fisherman at the barrier had been nude, until I go close, but then discreetly hid to don a thing. When I walked to the construction barrier, to view some birds in a tidal lagoon, the woman approached, and we had a brief conversation. I let her know that they did not have to cover up on my account, and that I had been nude in this area, many times, over the decades. I then gave them plenty of space. Had that one fisherman shed his thong, to be nude, again, I would have stripped, too. Then, all too soon, it was time to leave, so that I could be back on I-10 before dark. (My eyes are not the best, anymore, for driving on non-divided highways, at night.)

An additional concern, at the construction barrier nearest High Island, is that there is an access road for work crews, who drive from somewhere inland, to the beach, then make a left to reach the work site, and then drive back again. Friday, when I was there, the work crews were shuttling back and forth, quite often. So, if one wants to be nude, near the construction barrier, it is necessary to keep a lookout inland, as well as each direction along the beach.
