I'm going Sat. Last week the sand was getting real powdery and kinda iffy for a 2WD truck. I didn't go all the way.

Not me. I drive a grey Ram 4wheel drive.

2WD is a limitation, sometimes. With a bit of money, raided from a retirement fund, arriving at the end of the month, I reckon that is is about time to see about the availability of tires, better-suited to sand, than my “all-terrain” BFGs. I have an extra pair of wheels stashed in the carport’s attic-like area, that match my factory wheels, but, it might make sense to buy a pair of wider rims, to use only on the rear. My Tundra has good ground clearance, but, is 2WD.
I do miss having 4WD. Those were good days.

I switched from 215-70s on stock rims to 255-70 all-terrains on Mustang rims on my old-but-still-running Grand Caravan. Also ditched the stow/go seats to drop weight over the non-drive (rear) wheels. Difference is noticeable. Still carry a high-lift, boards, shovel, and a strap for peace of mind. I won't be winning any mud-bogs, but three miles in from Sea Rim is no problem. It should hold me until I get that motor in my Ramcharger. Of course, I've been saying that for two years (SMH).

Making the 3-4 mile trip in going west from Sea Rim is still pretty easy for most 2 WD. We go a couple times a week and often see Camry type vehicles making the ride. There are a couple of soft sand areas because of no rain lately, but just keep moving and you'll be fine.

Thanks for this assessment. I may simply opt for buying another pair of BFG all-terrain tires, and even that is not urgent. If a Camry can make it, I should not even need to bother to air-down. The vehicle barriers actually do me a favor, because I am not afraid to walk several miles, each way, to get away from the general beachgoing public. Having to walk-in is the great equalizer
This is yet another incentive for me to get another kayak. I have already been looking at kayaks; on-line, anyway. (Someone stole my kayak and canoes, from their storage place, several years ago.)
I drove to High Island on Sunday, June 25th, in the late afternoon, just to scout. (I had been at my mother’s house, near Baytown, doing house and yard work, before this.) I parked near where Highways 124 and 87 meet, and walked NE to the barriers that denote the start of the construction zone. There were NO people on foot, beyond those barriers. No footprints, either. I saw no tracks that indicated anyone had been driving past the barrier. I could have kept walking, along the intertidal zone, for ten or 15 minutes, and stripped, with nobody but the birds to notice. Notably, however, a couple of species of shorebirds were nesting, and were quite upset that I was there. I like the birds, so, I did not vex them further. I wanted to be back at my truck before darkness fell, anyway. After nesting season is over, this could be a tempting option to the much longer drive to Sabine Pass end. The signs do not seem to prohibit pedestrians. I think I can work with this.
Historically, nude beach usage started much nearer High Island, as close as one to three miles from High Island, depending upon how many clothed folks were present. This new barrier could, potentially, allow the historic, traditional nude area to again extend back toward High Island. Back to the Eighties! (Yes, one had to be discreet, and be ready to cover-up. That will never change.)

Hi, I was thinking about going out this weekend on the Sabine Pass side. Does anyone know how far out I have to go? Is there a hot spot on the Sabine Pass side? I’m new to the nudist scene but would love to find a friend that will help feel more comfortable!
