Headed to Galveston next week. Anyone have an update on High Island? i went last week and its still closed down about 1 1/2 miles down. the road was good but had 2 dunes you will need a truck or be able to drive around if the tide is right. i did find a nice toy to play with.

Thanks for the update. It doesn’t sound too promising for this week.

At High Island Beach now. Pipe barrier still up, put the sign not to enter was gone. We drove past the barrier and have the beach to ourselves. It’s a beautiful day! In my g string, enjoying the sun. Hope they don’t ask us to leave soon.

I am considering going out there today; spur of the moment. Wondering whether to approach from High Island, or from Port Arthur. The tide should be receding, from about 2-something PM, until darkness. I have been out there before, on Sundays, and found it largely deserted by late afternoon, with no need to go very far, in order to be past any families. As I see it, by not driving all the way into the NWR, from the High Island end, a visit from the federal guys is less likely to happen.
In the “good old days” of the Eighties and Nineties, I usually approached from High Island, and simply stripped down once I/we were past the last of the clothed families. One of my wilder girlfriends would strip well before we arrived. With the vehicle barrier in place, recently, it may again be possible to resurrect this practice. A few months ago, I parked at the vehicle barrier, and was the farthest person on the beach. No tracks went past the barrier. I was well away from anyone being able to tell whether or not I was clothed, so, well, I was not.
