New member here and need confirmation about entering from the west side. From what I read you must go around a barrier but you can only do it at low tide, correct? Then you must be out by the time the tide starts coming in or you'll be blocked, correct? Where do you find the tidal times for that specific area? This seems kind of risky that you may be late and get stuck, but, I'm not familiar with that beach. What is the entry situation from the east and what is the distance via hwy from west entrance to the east entrance, in case I can't enter from the west?

The construction barrier is gone, at least from the High Island end. The trick is that so much sand washed away, during the storms, that a large amount of the slick clay base was exposed, very near the highway entrance. Driving on the clay can be perilous to those with vehicles that are not suited for it. Only at low tide times is one able to bypass the clay. Those with 4WD vehicles have less worry, about the muddy clay. My Toyota, for example, has high ground clearance, but is 2WD, so, is vulnerable to getting stuck in the clay. So, if I want to visit McFaddin anytime the rest of this week or next week, I will probably enter from the east end, driving through Port Arthur and Sabine Pass. This adds considerable travel time and fuel cost, from the Houston metro area.
A separate complication is that today, and for the next several days, the Low Tide is not going to be very low, with the low tide mark being considerably higher than the official 0 mark. I may or may not drive to High Island, today, to see what that looks like, at today’s Low Tide time of 3:58 PM, or Friday’s Low Tide at 5:15 PM. The Low Tide will be even higher, for about a week. (I have other reasons, than the beach, for wanting to visit the High Island area. I will not commit to this recon, however, as I may a competing goal, in the DFW area.)

I entered High Island side this morning. Drove about 4 miles east....no problem. Had hoped to meet others but no body around. I left about 11

Difficult access and remoteness can, actually, be a good thing, for those of use who would rather remain unobserved by those who would be “offended.” Having to pay attention to the tides, alone, will screen out many families, for example.

i went to the high island side today the tide was the highest i have seen it since it reopened. i went down about 3/4 mile until i had to lock it in 4 wheel drive. and stopped. i didn't see anyone on the beach at all so i got naked and walked about a mile down the beach and had a blast alone. i wasn't worried about getting busted because it would take a pretty good 4x4 to get to me. i spent a couple hours just relaxing. and if weather lets up and the tide goes out i plan on going Wednesday on the Sabine side and hope to be there no later than 10 am today i had fun by myself and hope when i go back i can find someone else to have fun with.

i went the entire 22 miles from high island to pleasure island. when i hit the beach there was 4 people and one car. max 1/8 mile. i went 3 miles got nude and road to 21 miles and never saw a single person or car. i stopped got dressed. and the last couple miles i saw 3 people and 2 cars everyone was dressed. and i mean fully dressed. and from what i am seeing its going to be to cold to make a trip again for awhile. but it was nice to go to the beach from winnie and come home from port author. a total of 156 miles.
