I've been lurking here for a while but figured I'd make a post. I'm thinking about heading down to the nude beach this weekend, but I've read some people saying that there's some construction or a fenced off area that may be interfering with the beach's privacy. Is this still the case? I don't want to head all the way out there if there's no privacy.

Yes that is still the case but most people been going on the Sabine Pass Side with no real issues from what I been reading. We are going to try and hit it on Sunday.

We are planning on going tomorrow afternoon. Around 2 or so. The local news reports that Sea Rim will be open in the morning so I’m guessing McFaddin should be ok too. The tide should be going out most of the afternoon.

There is no “privacy.” The higher dunes, and the shrubbery, present during the still-glorious Eighties, have largely been obliterated by storm wave erosion. The hazy mist, caused by wave action, will obscure clear viewing from any substantial distance, even if the viewer has binoculars. Just beware of those occasional clear days, with a north or NW breeze. In my younger days, when I had vision better than 20/20, I knew that if I could not see what distant people were wearing, well, they would not see what I was wearing, either. At the time, I kept my rear end as tan as my back and legs, so, did not have an obvious “white tail,” when seen from behind, at a distance. One can construct a visual barrier, using beach chairs or patio furniture. I used to keep two or three folding lounge chairs in my vehicles, starting with a 1969 VW Beetle, that I bought in 1980. I kept doing that, until the late Nineties. This trick worked anywhere that one could drive on the beach, not just in traditional “nude” areas. I often did it this way, on Galveston’s West Beach, in the Eighties. The open bed of a pickup truck provides privacy, unless the viewer gets quite close, and can look over the edge of the bed. A group of folks can “circle the wagons,” using vehicles as visual barriers, if the tide is out, so that the beach is wide enough. I tend to wear a brightly-colored fishing hoody/hoodie, if I am on foot, away from my vehicle, so that from a distance, it appears that I am clothed. Only at close distance will the presence or absence of a swimsuit or shorts become apparent. Some of my fishing hoodies are XXL, rather than my usual size L, and suffice to cover the legally relevant parts, even if I am technically bottomless. I no longer “sun,” for its own sake, so, do not see a hoodie as being less purely naturist, or whatever we call public nude recreation, in natural areas, these days. (Plus, in a book, that I bought in my late teens, is an image of a bottomless young man, standing, wearing a hoodie, at a beach. I had never considered myself anything but heterosexual, until then, but, his penis and scrotum were absolutely beautiful. So, wearing a hoodie, and nothing else, became a “thing,” for me, from that moment onward.) Another trick, when I would rather not wear a hoodie or shirt, and am on foot, away from my vehicle, is to wear a runner’s belt, with a speedo or thong stuffed into the phone pocket. It is necessary to keep an alert lookout, in all directions, when doing this, of course. I remember when I was a kid, in elementary school, when we watched a slide show, with a lecture, during a geography lesson. The guest lecturer, who had traveled in an African nation, said that local tribesmen always wore a traditional belt, and that “when out it the bush, that is just about all they wear.” Bingo! At a young age, I decided that I liked the idea of “going native;” being “tribal.”

Construction is ongoing, as of August 16th. Quoting myself from a post in another thread:
“An additional concern, at the construction barrier nearest High Island, is that there is an access road for work crews, who drive from somewhere inland, to the beach, then make a left to reach the work site, and then drive back again. Friday, when I was there, the work crews were shuttling back and forth, quite often. So, if one wants to be nude, near the construction barrier, it is necessary to keep a lookout inland, as well as each direction along the beach.“

I will continue to scout the High Island end, from time to time, and will update this thread. I may check the Sabine Pass end, too, but less often, due to the farther distance. These are known good destinations for viewing birds, a hobby of mine since the Eighties, so, the trips are never wasted, and, do not cause suspicion on the home front.
I almost went to High Island again, today, Sunday, the 18th, but, instead, diverted to Galveston, to check the west end, by San Luis Pass. It was packed with families. I then crossed the toll bridge, to the Freeport side, and checked a kayak launch point, on Drum Bay. Two vehicles were there, but soon left, so, I had the place to myself. Well, I was not alone; horse flies were swarming. I stayed dressed, watching the setting sun, for a while, then left early enough to that I would be on the divided part of 288 before full darkness. (My eyes do their best, after dark, when on divided highways.)
