Anyone at the High Island end, today, August 4th? There is a falling tide, from mid-afternoon, so, a good time to be out there, and not get caught by a rising tide, near the end of the day. If nothing else, I would like to photograph the Brown Pelicans, as they fly homeward, late in the day. If possible, I would like to be wearing nothing but perhaps a runner’s hydration belt.
If not today, anyone planning to visit anytime in August?
I used to post here, as a guest, as Michael R, when it was still possible to post as a guest. I had to choose a user name without capital letters, and every variation of michael seemed to be already taken.

Well, I did not make it out there on the 4th. I helped a neighbor with something before I headed for I-10 East, and then, my mother’s mower was much more of a problem than anticipated, which kept me busy until dark. The tides will not be favorable, for a while, for driving on the beach with 2WD in late afternoons, but, I may well visit the High Island end, anyway, some time this week. I can park on the pavement, and hike toward the less-crowded end. A major reason I go to the beach is long walks, barefoot, anyway, for the unique type of workout it gives the foot and lower leg muscles.
I am less likely to take the route through Port Arther, any time this week, due to the extra travel time. At least through the end of this work/school week, I have early morning and afternoon commitments, in Houston.

Weather does not stop me, unless it is bad enough to make driving a hazard, or the lightning is too close for safety. A platonic friend of mine, from about 20 years ago, had a fantasy of making love in the pouring rain, and we agreed that we would do it, when the circumstances all managed to align. Obviously, this was to be done on a warm summer day. We worked different schedules, and lived about 30 miles apart, so, never could quite make that fantasy a reality. A girlfriend from farther back in time loved to run naked in the rain, though she was not an exhibitionist, having zero interest in being seen by strangers while nude, so, this running-about was something done in a wooded area. When I did bring her to the beach, she wanted to bring her kids, so, we stayed in the family-friendly areas. So, among some women, at least, there seems to be something sexy about summertime rain.
Personally, I like the way a rain shower causes water to stream from the ends of hanging hair, and from the tips of those certain protruding body parts… On both men and women…

I empathize with the fuel consumption of trucks. Mine does better than the single digits MPG, but, fuel cost is always a factor.
My free time usually being in the late afternoons, the next good low tide times will be on the 13th and 14th of September. That assumes that the tropical low pressure system is no longer keeping the tides abnormally high. I do not yet know whether I will try the High Island or Sabine Pass side, but, High Island is MUCH less travel time, so, especially on Friday, I am likely to try High Island, and hope that it being post-Labor Day will mean no families.
Notably, if my wife invites herself, we will be at the bird-watching destinations, rather than the beach areas. I do not want her to even know that there is still nude recreation in the Bolivar-McFaddin area.

Anyone out there, today, Sunday, the 15th? I should be out there, by mid-afternoon, scouting the High Island end, but might check the Sabine Pass end, too, if the High Island end does not look good.
Edited to add: It is a cloudy day, but that is good, for my purposes, because getting a tan is not my priority. I want to feel wind and waves, unimpeded by clothing. Clouds tend to keep families away.

Well, the sun was out, when I got there. Plenty of families, near the entrance, but at the construction barrier, a couple of fishermen were just leaving, allowing me to “claim” the end spot. This allowed me to use the huge steel pipe as a visual barrier, and be naked for about an hour, letting the waves wash over me. Then two carloads of college/high schoolers arrived in two SUVs. I could see them from half a mile away, so, I pulled my running shorts on, before I stood up. I then got to see some college girls frolicking in the waves, for a while. Not a bad day!
